American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a professional society for the field of mechanical engineering. NMSU’s ASME Student Chapter meets on a bi-weekly basis for speakers, workshops, networking, and other activities that pepare students for future employment. Student members select a competition to participate in for the academic year that may invovle robots, 3D printing, or human powered vehicles.

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics is a professional society for the field of aerospace engineering. NMSU’s AIAA Student Chapter meets on a bi-weekly basis, networks with fellow engineering students (at NMSU and nearby Universities) and alumni, participates in conferences, and competitions, and attends aerospace related museums, businesses, and events.

Atomic Aggies

The Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA) hosts an Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) for multistage and chemical propulsion type (solid, liquid, and hybrid) rockets. NMSU’s IRECT Team designs, builds, and launches a rocket that reaches a 10,000/30,000 ft. altitude in competition with student rocketry teams from across the USA and around the world.

Design/Build/Fly is an AIAA competition where teams design, fabricate, and fly an aunmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft with meets specified mission profiles.

SAE Mini Baja

NMSU SAE Mini Baja is a student organization where students get to learn how to design, manufacture, build and race a 4-wheel drive off-roading vehicle yearly though Society of Automotive Engineering Baja. It is a great learning experience for students of all majors. It allows students to get hands-on experience and implement classes such as physics, fluids, as well as many others and apply classroom knowledge to building a car.

Pi Tau Sigma

PI TAU SIGMA is the International Honor Society for Mechanical Engineers. Pi Tau Sigma members are chosen on a basis of sound engineering ability, scholarship service, leadership, and integrity. The Pi Tau Sigma mission is to strive to create better engineers through commitment to academic excellence and dedication to service. Pi Tau Sigma prides itself in the core values: Integrity (soundness of character and moral conduct), Service (serving the mechanical engineering profession and the community), and Leadership (fostering initiative through example in a professional manner). Pi Tau Sigma is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. There are presently 182 collegiate chapters at universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates.
