The MAE ACADEMY

Welcome to the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Academy at New Mexico State University. It was established in 1986 with the intent of enhancing the reputation of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Academy is constituted-

  1. As an endeavor to enhance the reputation of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and to strengthen the dedication of the students and faculty of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department through professional example and personal relationships;
  2. For the purpose of providing guidance, advice, and counsel to the faculty and students of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at NMSU;
  3. To encourage personal, corporate, foundation, and other gifts and grants to strengthen the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at NMSU; and,
  4. To recognize graduates of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at NMSU and elsewhere who bring honor to the profession of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as practitioners and citizens.

The Academy meets twice a year. A working meeting is held in the fall close to Homecoming Weekend. In February during Engineering Week, the Academy meets to conduct business, induct new members, and elect new officers and committee members. The highlight of their visit to New Mexico State is attending the presentations and lectures relating to new engineering innovations along with current development initiatives. Students participate by giving presentations, attending luncheons and banquets, and meeting with the Academy members during their visit.

Each year the Academy recognizes a member of the faculty for their contributions to the department through the Academy Professor Award. They also established the Academy Endowment, which is expected to grow into a major source of development for the department. The MAE Academy is an essential resource in the future development and growth of the NMSU Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department.
