Date: September 24,2019

NSF has awarded $5 million to fund the second phase of the smart grid research project at NMSU. Dr. Liang Sun is one of the Co-PIs on this large multi-disciplinary research and education initiative. The first phase of this grant has resulted in the publication of 450 peer-reviewed papers by the team. This grant seeks to strengthen and improve the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the electric energy grid by addressing infrastructure challenges, security issues and working to create a highly trained and flexible workforce to support the future of the industry. A news story about this grant is published in the Las Cruces Sun-News. This grant is one of the two multi-million dollar grants within the past two years to have an MAE faculty member on the team. Congratulations, Dr. Sun!
