Earlier this year, Professor Abdessattar “Abdu” Abdelkefi of New Mexico State University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This highly honorable award recognizes Dr. Abdelkefi for his contributions to the engineering profession, ASME organization, and other outstanding engineering achievements.
The MAE Department extends a well-deserved congratulations to Dr. Abdelkefi, as his contributions to the engineering community are substantial. This award reflects his clear dedication and desire to heighten innovation in the Mechanical and Aerospace engineering field.
Dr. Abdelkefi’s research on dynamical systems, with an emphasis on nonlinear dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, and energy harvesting, has enabled him to rank among the top 2% of scientists worldwide across all fields for career-long engineering contributions and single-year impact. By virtue of Dr. Abdelkefi’s excellence, he was also elected an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and he currently serves as section editor-in-chief for Drones, associate editor for the Journal of Vibration and Control, and member of the editorial board for Scientific Reports.
