The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at New Mexico State University is proud to announce the launch of the MAE Newsletter, a new way to connect our community of students, alumni, faculty, and industry partners.
This digital publication showcases the individuals and projects driving innovation within MAE, featuring student design teams, faculty achievements, groundbreaking research, and departmental milestones.
Whether you're passionate about engineering education, aerospace systems, thermophysics, or materials research, the MAE Newsletter offers a quick and engaging way to explore what’s happening in Las Cruces and beyond.
From hands-on student teams such as Design, Build, and Fly, the Atomic Aggies rocketry group, and Mini-Baja, to professional organizations like ASME and AIAA, MAE students continue to make bold strides both inside and outside the classroom. These projects reflect the spirit of creativity, collaboration, and applied engineering that defines our department.
The Launch Edition, released on September 25, 2025, captures this vibrant energy—featuring student success stories, research highlights, faculty promotions, and department updates. MAE currently serves the largest undergraduate population in the NMSU College of Engineering, supported by 18 faculty members and 2 Professors of Practice. The department consistently leads the college in research expenditures, with both graduate and undergraduate students contributing to innovative and impactful research.
This new publication also enhances MAE’s visual and digital presence among peer institutions, enabling us to share our department’s achievements more widely and attract opportunities for collaboration with industry partners and national research organizations.
“Our goal with this newsletter is to celebrate the accomplishments and creativity of our students and faculty, while building stronger connections with alumni and partners,” said Dr. J.I. Frankel, Department Head and R.G. Myers Endowed Professor. “It’s an exciting step in showcasing the incredible work happening in MAE.”
Thank you for being an essential part of the MAE community. We hope this newsletter becomes a lasting connection between you and the department as we continue to grow, innovate, and celebrate our achievements together.
