Faculty and graduate students from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering recently toured Spaceport America, New Mexico’s hub for commercial spaceflight and aerospace testing. The visit was designed to give participants a firsthand look at the facilities and to deepen the department’s connection to the state’s aerospace ecosystem.
Attendees explored Spaceport’s testing and launch infrastructure, gaining insight into the resources available to support future research and industry partnerships.
“This visit was a great opportunity for our faculty and students to see the world-class facilities that exist right here in New Mexico,” said Dr. Francisco Torres Herrador.
Staff from the College of Engineering also joined the tour, supporting the department’s efforts to strengthen ties between NMSU and the region’s aerospace industry.
The Spaceport visit comes as MAE prepares to host the 15th International Ablation Workshop this fall at NMSU, where researchers from across the globe will gather to share advances in hypersonics and extreme environment research. Together, these experiences highlight the department’s engagement and visibility in critical areas of aerospace innovation.
