Graduate Research Opportunity in Environmental Testing of Structures

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NMSU is now accepting applications for graduate research positions in Modeling and Environmental Testing of Structures. This opportunity provides MS and PhD students with advanced training in structural dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, vibration, flight testing, and related experimental and theoretical research.

Program Highlights

Graduate research assistants will:

  • Design, acquire, and deploy shaker/fixture/component systems.
  • Manufacture dynamical systems in collaboration with Aggie Innovation Space.
  • Conduct experimental testing to estimate real-world component performance.
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis of environmental testing.
  • Publish research findings in conference proceedings and journals.

Support Package

  • 12-month graduate research assistantship
  • Full tuition coverage
  • Starting date: Fall 2025

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to ME, AE, and MAE majors.
  • Preferred GPA: 3.2 or higher (BS level).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Applicants must be graduate students (MS or PhD).

Application Materials

Submit the following in PDF format:

  • Academic transcript(s) (unofficial accepted)
  • Resume or CV

Email materials to Dr. Abdu Abdelkefi (abdu@nmsu.edu).

Post-Program Opportunities

Participants will graduate with a strong skill set in experimental and theoretical structural dynamics and manufacturing of dynamical systems. This program also provides a competitive foundation for careers in national laboratories (LANL, Sandia) and leading aerospace companies such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
