MAE Faculty Ranked Among Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide

New Mexico State University (NMSU) continues to be recognized for its research excellence, with 41 of its faculty members named to the prestigious list of the top 2 percent of scientists globally. This includes two faculty members from the College of Engineering: Dr. Jay I. Frankel and Dr. Abdessattar Abdelkefi.

This year, NMSU’s representation on the list has grown from 40 faculty members last year to 41, reflecting the university’s expanding influence in the scientific community.

“The 41 NMSU researchers featured on this year’s Stanford University and Elsevier list, along with many other rising stars, will help facilitate our transition to Carnegie R1 designation next year,” said Luis Cifuentes, NMSU vice president of research, creativity and economic development.

Both Dr. Frankel and Dr. Abdelkefi have made remarkable advancements in their respective fields, contributing to NMSU’s reputation as a hub of world-class research. Their inclusion on this esteemed list is a testament to their dedication and expertise in engineering and science.

The full list, which is updated regularly, is used as a global benchmark for scientific achievement, with scientists in 22 fields and 174 subfields being ranked based on citations of their work. This year’s rankings also highlight the growing number of NMSU faculty members making an impact on the world stage.
