Welcome to the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department. We are housed in the College of Engineering at NMSU, which is ranked 29th in the nation by the National Science Foundation for the federally financed research and development engineering expenditures. In addition, the College of Engineering is ranked among the Top 150 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s annual evaluation of American graduate school programs.
The Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department prepares students for challenging careers where they can apply a broad spectrum of knowledge in all the traditional and modern sub-disciplines such as classical mechanics, thermal sciences, and control systems to solve real-world problems that help improve our lifestyles, create wealth, and discover new technologies. Our graduates can be found in private industry, government service, and research laboratories within New Mexico, throughout the United States, and in many other countries. We currently offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, with many sub-specialties.
Our extensive summer internship and semester co-op programs help prepare students for entering the workforce. Our state-of-the-art research trains graduate students to face the theoretical and technical challenges of tomorrow. Many of our faculty members provide ample scope for undergraduate students to participate in cutting edge research projects. Our department is large enough to give students the experiences that will be found in many other research universities, yet small enough to have close interaction with faculty and peers.
